13 Weeks to Go: New Space and New People

For all of you who weren't at the last meeting we are no longer going to present the exhibit at Lobot instead we're going to move it to a smaller and more accessible space, hopefully Hatch Gallery.

This of coarse means that the opening date is not concrete so my whole "13 weeks" thing is kind of more of a suggestion.

Also... we've also got some new people involved in the project.

Thomas Young (who was at the last meeting) is an actual archeologist who has a lot of ideas about how to make the project seem more legit plus he's responsible for this bizarre website: http://www.yetisgonewild.com/

and

Danielle Schlunegger a sculptor who's been doing stuff very much like our project for a long time. In her own work she's created an entirely fictional naturalist who she's built tools and fabricated documentation about. I've been talking to her about working this character into our story. Plus she's offered to build some fake taxidermy animals for us! Check out her work here: http://www.schlunegger.com/

14 Weeks to Go: Website! and Meeting

For the past few weeks I haven't really been keeping up this blog because I had this crazy thing to do:

Now that that's done with I can get back to work on the Thulans and will be posting here weekly.

The big news this week...

We have a website: http://culturesofwonder.com/

It's still a work in progress content wise but I think it looks great.

Oh and also we have a big meeting this Sunday.

Anyone who reads this and is in the bay area but doesn't know about the upcoming meeting please email me because there's no reason why that should happen.

18 Weeks to Go: No real new material but some new ideas

Not much to report this week as far as progress on the project.

I've been reaching out to even more new people via craigslist. There's some really promising people who could end up filling out our project quite a bit.

I've also got some new ideas about ways to approach the project and directions to take it. There not fully formed right now so I don't want to get too specific.

What I would like to do is have a meeting sometime in the next few weeks and start getting a real schedule together about how to make this thing happen.

I'm going to email everyone tonight or tomorrow about that.

19 Weeks to Go: Some new artists... maybe

Hey everyone,

I put out my feelers again to the craigslist world looking for some new artists to contribute work to the project these two had a very positive reaction and they make pretty far out stuff:

www.clintimboden.com

www.flamingheadburnsworld.blogspot.com

Both of them have a lot of questions about the project and if they do get involved will probably just be submitting a piece or two but I thought I'd share their work with you.

If anybody has any ideas about places one of them might fit I'd love to hear it.

20 Weeks to Go: Welcome to the Cultures of Wonder blog

I set up this blog for three reasons.

1. I want to have a place where I can post weekly updates of the progress we make on the project leading up to the opening in February. I think it will be a good place for everyone to check in and see what's getting done and what needs to get done.

2. Hopefully this will also encourage us (and specifically me) to make a little progress every week so I have something to post.

3. In the future we can use this as a record of the process we went through to build this thing.

I'm going to post every Tuesday from now until the opening of the show... which, by the way, will be the first weekend in February, the 4th.

So that's my big announcement for this week...

The Show Opens on the February 4th

For those of you who aren't caught up you should also check out the Wiki for all the information we've put together about the Thulans
